Respice Finem is a fictional continent that was raised from the ocean floor from supernatural forces/intervention. Tempus City is the fictional location on Respice Finem where the site is set. A map can be found on the Location tab for general layout.

Altered Reality's narrative does not incorporate recent real-world events, specifically those related to recent health concerns. We aim to steer clear of such topics to allow our characters to progress within the fictional world we've crafted. The staff at Altered Reality appreciates your understanding and extends our apologies to those impacted by Covid.

We participate in randomly timed activity checks. The check is easy and has no posting requirements. It's merely to check in with members to make sure there is still interest.

We encourage you to participate in our contests! Prizes benefit your character and the site!

We operate on the rule of treat others how you want to be treated. With that in mind, we will not tolerate any form of bullying or harassment of staff or our members. Should you feel that you are being harassed or bullied, contact a staff member. Please note we cannot hold voice chat conversations as evidence. Screenshots will be required.

Pestering other members about posts and threads is annoying. Please refrain from doing so. Communication is important in this situation but no one should feel pestered or pressured to post on a specific timeline.

Poaching our members will fall under this category as well. We have an advertising board for a reason. Mentioning your other games is acceptable but advertising them outside of the advertisem*nt board is not allowed. Please don't DM or PM members, asking them to join your other RP.

When it comes to bullying, harassment, or toxic RP behavior, Altered Reality will operate on a three-strike system for general complaints. Should the form of harassment or bullying be excessive, the staff reserve the right to ban or suspend a member as befits the case.

Please register all account(s) with a First and Last name with proper case. Don't use special/accented letter please as it messes with tagging and the skin. OOC accounts are optional.

We recommend that you sub-account/link all your accounts to your Main account so you can easily pop between accounts.

There isn't a limit to how many characters you can have. But please only create as many as you can keep active! We do recommend that you have posts with a character before making another.

Your character applications are in your profile. Go to your Account Settings and Profile info to add your character information as well as your OOC player info. HTML for spacing isn't needed but is accessible.
Applying for character approval happens in the discord channel "app-review". There members will submit a private ticket between staff. If a member doesn't want to join the discord, please PM Rahzilla for app review.

The tidbits portion of the profile can be a standard shipper, a personality section, a thread tracker history of threads, a facts/tidbits section about your character, or whatever you feel needs to be shared. It can be as much as you'd like to share. All sections of the profile are required though. The only exception is application triggers if your app has no applicable triggers.
Members may edit profiles after acceptance to fix typos, add approved bought abilities from the store, and to update the tidbits portion of their app with relations/new facts/threads. Any major changes to a character app must be placed under ticket review in the discord for staff approval. If you are not a member of the discord, please PM Rahzila for app changes.
17.
Our staff values communication with our members. We understand that sometimes a site may not be the right fit after joining. We do not hold it against anyone who wishes to leave and return later. We are considerate of life's circ*mstances. If you wish to leave the site, let us know.
Minor changes to accounts are acceptable as stated above in rule 16. However, if an approved account is found to have removed all information without prior notification of disinterest, we regret to inform the member that we will not be able to welcome them back.

Altered Reality will allow artwork for general ideas or fae forms, but the character's human form requires a real-life face claim! This is non-negotiable. All Characters will have a human form, whether they are human or supernatural.

The Avatar size is 230x400.

No real people with substantial power throughout history can be supernatural, they must be human. Substantial power in this circ*mstance would be defined as spiritual, political, having leadership/following, etc, An example would be the Pope. As a person of spiritual power, they cannot be supernatural. Another example would be that Ragnar Lothbrok could be supernatural in theory as there is no concrete proof to the world of an existing bloodline.

No actual person currently living or was living is playable as a character. It is considered an insensitive area of discussion. Using real-life faces is acceptable as we want players to flex their creative muscles. But directly ripping an actual person will not be allowed.
22.
We have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to under-aged roleplay. No character shall be under the age of 18 in either appearance, actual age, or the face claim's actual age. If you're caught trying to use an underage face claim, the character may be denied instantly.
23.
Face claim reservations are only allowed for one week. Once they expire, you will have 24 hours to extend your claim for another week. Wanted ads are allowed to hold a face claim but are in no way a reservation. It is recommended if you want to use a face claim that is being requested, you speak to the member requesting it first. Check out the want ad, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised.

Identical siblings can have the same face claim, as long as it's clearly stated the number of siblings in the first app. Please be advised that these cases should be considered rare. The first account claims the face and any identical face claims after will need to purchase the badge from the store to claim the face again. Points can be shared between accounts.

The abilities section of the application is for species abilities, (supernatural abilities, animal forms, etc), weaknesses, or anything important. If it is special to your character, it can go in the abilities section. For humans, you can place talents in this category if you would like.

Sentient creations are not allowed. Powers or abilities that give sentience to a creation or separate entity will not be approved on site.

We encourage almost all walks of kinks and fetishes, however, we also understand that not everyone is okay with this. We encourage you to fill out your "Triggers" section in your profile and list things you are not comfortable with. It will allow those who rp with you to know your limits.

Because we allow several things that may or may not trigger others, we ask that you label your threads when you make your titles. If you are roleplaying anything that might trigger someone, please place a [M] label in your title. The first post within the thread should also include a "TW: with the triggering content listed here". That way, those who don't want to take the chance, will know to avoid reading that thread. If you find someone abusing this or there's an issue with this, contact Staff immediately.

Adding onto the Trigger Warning train. We ask for you to state if there are any triggers like the ones in the key inside. For example, Trigger Warning: Mental and Physical Abuse, Suicide. If you fail to do this then you will be asked to add them before the character can be approved! The section for triggering content within the character's application is for triggering application content. If there are none, you may leave it blank. We encourage members to fill this out. If you're unsure whether something is a trigger, it can be safe to label it regardless.
The suggested [TW] topics to be labeled at the top of a thread are listed below. If you have any questions, please ask the staff and they will explain them to you. Some examples include but are not limited to:

IC actions will have IC consequences. If you directly challenge a powerful/supernatural being in ways that would result in your character's death, then the player runs the risk of killing their character. While the site is a modern fantasy/supernatural beings site, we would like to try to keep some level of reality. Characters must be reasonable in their actions.

While based in a fictional city, on a fictional continent, there are laws which dictate life in Tempus City. Unless listed here, assume that standard laws of North America are in place. The laws below may be updated as new scenarios present themselves.
A The drinking age for soft alcohol is 14. The drinking age for hard alcohol is 18.
B The age of consent is 16. Children are considered adults by the age of 18 and can be tried as adults for crimes committed at 18.
C Marijuana is legal in Respice Finem.
D Feminine health clinics are freely owned and operational to all in Respice Finem.
E Citizens of Respice Finem are allowed to own guns only after proper training and a background check is performed. Conceal carry permits are accessible to those that pass a psychological assessment once every two years.
E01 It is easier to get an illegal firearm than a legal one.
F Consensual sex work is legal in Respice Finem. Human trafficking is illegal.
G Recording purposes only require one-party consent. Police and legal forms often use memory Kitsune to guarantee the authenticity of recorded sources due to supernatural alterations.
H The emergency services number in Respice Finem is '616' instead of '911'.

Activated abilities bought in the shop are non-refundable. Once the item from the store is used on an account, it won't be refunded. As well, once a custom ability is approved by staff, we will not allow characters to rewrite/revamp/refund that ability. If you have written out an ability and it has been approved by staff, we will not allow it to be modified into a different ability for staff sanity.
Please be advised that if you revise or edit those abilities after approval it will result in a strike.

General researching is recommended! You might need to correlate info into historical happenings, positions, etc. Even though this is a fictional site with supernatural ties, staff would request research before apping. An example could be World War interactions. If your character is involved in a war, general research is recommended. Another example would be business CEO's. If your character owns a business or is a tycoon of some sort, research is also recommended into product, etc.
